My Dr. will not change my dosage n even though i've been on my current dosage for more than 7 yrs, and it doesn't work anymore.None of my Dr.s will even consider adding another pill a day much less up the dosage.I don't want to get high or even expect to live without pain, just be able to function on a day to day level.
Hi there, Oxycontin can be taken 3 times a day if the Dr feels that it is what the patient needs. He would also give you a new script. I took MSContin three times a day which is the same idea (time release). I can see why you need your dosing adjusted after so many years. Talk to whoever prescribes the meds and be completely honest and maybe you can get help. Good luck with this.
See if they would be willing to change you to a new drug. Sometimes rotation to a new drug helps after you become tolerant to your current drug. Just because you are tolerant to one drug doesnt mean you have tolerance to others. Maybe they could try MSContin or OpanaER. I have had this trouble with Drs in the past and I usually end up changing Drs to one who will work with me.
That's a DEA and/or manufacturer requirement there is still no generic alternative and Oxycontin differs greatly from MS Contin for that reason.
Doctors are simply not allowed to write anything other than every 12-hours, however, your Doctor can (off the record) allow a variation, but he/she has no power to change the instructions to anything other than whatever/mg every 12-hours. Hope this helps.
Believe me I have been looking for a new Dr. for a while now , but no luck. They all just want me to try things I've already tried or refuse to believe my pain is so bad? funny thing is a few of my friends have drs. that do give them what they want , but when i've gone to see them , no luck for me... I guess there is no true profile of a real drug abuser but i'm a married grandmother ,54 , diabetic, in dialysis , have 5 compressed discs in my back, also fibromyalgia ,just to mention a few of my issues. Why does Nebraska always have to be the worst state for everything??
I was on 120mg (total) a day of Oxycontin and ended up reducing my dosage and taking it over 4 times a day so 30mg each go; until in the end it stopped working for me and I couldn't up my dosage, so im now off it completely. But taking 30mg four x day worked better than 60mg twice daily or even 40mg three times a day. Good luck.
