Does the drug make you irritable and difficult and critical with family
Unfortunately OxyContin does make you irritable and difficult as some of its side effects are serious the urge to take more OxyContin than prescribed or for a non-medical purpose; unusual changes in mood or behavior and various other side effects which could be bothersome.
Please take care, best wishes!
Hello Cambourne, & welcome to the site. I haven't ever heard of this, but haven't read up on the side effects, & usually Rajive is correct in his answers. I would think if it was making your pain better you would be in a better mood than, worse, so maybe you should mention this to your doctor as a unwanted side effect. He/she might want you to try something different. Just a thought. I am giving you a link to the drug & have now read it. Please report this side effect to the FDA, there number is also listed in the link... Mary
Oh yes! I take Oxycodone which is just an immediate release form of OxyContin I am much more irritable on days I take the med compared to when I dont, even though I am in a lot more pain on days I dont take it I am much more pleasant to be around. My advice to you is something I personally do. I try to be aware of my moods and how I react to things. When I find myself getting annoyed and snippy I take a second and ask myself if this is something that would normaly bother me or not. Then I act accordinaly. I know that my family takes the brunt of my grumpyness(not sure if thats a word ;-) I cant spell to save my life!) So I try to be really aware of how I act. It can be hard because with me it feels like every little noise bothers me. Sometimes I cant even eat dinner with my family because the sound of chewing makes me want to climb a wall! I hope this helps. Sincerely-Taller
It can definitely cause your fuse to shorten. I find it helpful to make myself remember that it's the drug making me so anxious and impatient. It also helps to share this symptom with those you live with, tell them you're struggling with a side effect, help them understand, level with them and you may find while your jerky meter may still register high, the reactions and understanding you get in return may make the situation a little better. Hope this helps.
