Oxycontin Dosage help please?

- oxycontin, pain
I'm needing to adjust my dosage because my current dosage is not taking care of the pain. I currently take one 20mg Oxycontin at 7:00 am then another one at 11:30 am. At about 5:00 in the afternoon I take a 10 mg percocet and then at 9:00 another 10mg percocet. I'm not comfortable taking a stronger oxycontin pill and would prefer to add one pill to my daily intake. I plan to talk to my Dr. but I know she will ask me what I want to do. Can you give me any advice on how I can use 3 - 20 mg oxycontins per day so I can cut down on the percs in the evening and have pain relief through the day? To be honest, after taking the first one in the morning, in about 3 hours I'm feeling a lot of pain.
Thanks for any help.
hi julie I think if it were me id just go to 3 oxys a day and use the perc for breakthru of course try to spread the oxys out to 8 hrs thats the way i take mine I used to have the same issue u are speaking of but 3 a day and walah and I really dont take many percs now either as they have 325mg of APAP any way which in that small a dosage is harmless but by rule of thumb u dont want to consume more than 2000 mgs of APAP per day fearing liver damage
I too take Oxy 20mg extended release three times daily and its no longer helping, my doc only will give me hydrocodone 7.5/200 for breakthrough. I take my dose at 6am so I can get up @ 7 for work. By 11 I am ready for dose two instead of ability to wait until 2pm time. By 4/5 I have to take the hydro then at 7:30 I am taking dose #3. I am more sensitive to heat, sunlight, weight-gain and before I never sunburned and now get them everytime I'm outside for more than an hour. I understand then new formula is causing problems and may be the case for both of us.
It sounds as though that dose is simply not going to take care of your pain. That is a really low dose and you need to to tell your doctor it is not helping at all. Ask if he can raise the dose. Most people take much more than that. If you take more of the oxycontin, then perhaps you can cut down on the other med.
Even though this question is old, I will say what works for me is taking the 20 mg Oxycontin 3 times a day, 7-8 hours apart, along with a 10/325 mg Percocet especially for the morning pain and the mid-afternoon pain and the end of the day pain. But really, the slow release Oxy takes at least 2 hours if not 3 to even make any difference, that's why the quicker acting Percocet helps.
