To anyone that can help. I'm prescibed 10 mg oxycontin for chronic pain; will this cause me to fail a drug test to get a job? Basically I want to know, if Im on this medication through a doctor, can I still get a job that does a pre-employment drug screen? How does that process work?
When you fill out the application or interview with the boss, the subject will come up. if you can get a note ahead of time from your doc saying it is safe for you to do this work while on this medication, there should not be a problem. On the other hand, if it's a safety sensitive position, you may not get hired. Alot depends on your reactions to the oxy, the type of company it is (public private) and the laws in your state governing these issues. It may be a different story if you were already hired. In any event, honesty is your best weapon. Good luck to you!
If the subject doesn't come up, at the very least have your meds and note with you. If not your prospective boss, the tester will ask what meds you take prior to the test.
