I have been prescribed oxycodone 30mg for 3 years and have tried to quit a few times. I have finally decided to quit cold turkey and want to know if anyone has any advice on how to deal with the withdrawl symptoms?
I recommend you investigate the Thomas recipe for opiate withdrawal. You can google it. It is a list of mostly over the counter meds, though it does recommend the use of a benzodiazepine such as valium. Other than this, you'll want to take hot baths or showers frequently to help control the muscle cramping and restlessness. There are other medicines to consider like clonidine, but you have to have a prescription for it. It will help with the restlessness and anxiety.
Hang in there, remember the withdrawals won't last forever though at the time you'll wonder if they will ever go away.
If you change your mind, you always have the option of tapering off the oxycodone. You can avoid most of the withdrawals this way. Just a thought.
