Prescribed Oxycodone 5-325 (3 times a day); which relieves my severe back pain from a 6-7pain to 2-3 pain After 4 hrs I start to fell like shit. Is there a way to minimize this. Nothing else seems to work so far for my pain.
Hi lovee, what other meds have you been prescribed? How long have you been taking the oxycodone? Depending on the diagnosis, there's other procedures you may want to discuss with your doctor. Are you seeing a pain specialist? Orthopedic doctor? If the pain has been lasting a long time, you probably should be prescribed an extended release medication. Normally oxycodone is prescribed for moderate pain not expecting to last too long. Such as broken arm, post surgical pain, etc. For chronic pain sufferers, it's usually prescribed as a breakthrough pain med along with an extended release such as ms contin, oxycontin, etc. There's injections, physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercises that may help the pain lessen. You're right in that oxycodone does not last very long controlling pain.
If you aren't seeing a pain specialist, maybe set up an appointment and start there. They may be able to get you started on the right course of therapies including better medications, TENS unit, injections, PT, etc. Good luck and hope you find help soon.
Have to ask a question to get clarification. Does your pain come back after 4 hours or you feel like sh== because you get other symptoms like a stomach ache or nausea or headache or what?
If you are experiencing nausea with the oxycodone, try taking with food. If you are getting pain back after 4 hours then I have to agree with Christine, you may need to adjust the medication to one that is longer acting like oxycontin.
You may need to contact the doctor and explain your symptoms after the 4 hour time span. You may need to change meds or try other means of pain relief as Christine mentioned.
