I have HORRIBLE fears; fear of thunderstorms, fear of new medication, fear of being in the car... these fears affect me in a horrible way and sometimes make life pretty hard on me. Like tonight my anxiety is VERY BAD because I am supposed to start a new medication before bed. 300mg neurontin. I am terrified to take medicines before I go to sleep for fear of not knowing how my body will react and that I may die from it while sleeping. Last night, there was a 30% chance of thunderstorms, I couldnt sleep until almost 3am after taking 4 tylenol pm's... I need help getting over these fears! I am on 20mg paxil once a day, this helps take the edge off of the anxiety attacks but I does not help at all in copping with my fears.
Hello tiffers2788. I would suggest therapy. Be it through a private therapist, or the reading route. You can learn and teach yourself, coping skills to deal with your anxiety, and all the baggage that come along with it, all available through your local library. (inexpensive to boot) The internet also offers your the world of knowledge, simply by as you just did, accessing a website. Best regards, pledge
I would have to agree with Pledge on seeking counseling or a therapist. You know I suffered with the exact same thing you are describing. My husband thought I was crazy. Well he thought I needed help, is what he thought. My friends, relatives, family, doctors, all suggested counseling and I basically shrugged my shoulders to the thought of it at first. But no way, did I want to stay that way, and it was up to me to do something about it. Counseling helped me tremendously. I still struggle sometimes, but no way near like before. I have the same problem's except thunderstorm's. I can't drive , be alone and i am scared of new med's. If you find a way to cope let me know. I even went in the Hospital. They gave me Xanax and it helped but gave me such a bad headache i wouldn't take it again. Sometimes if your scared you have to go inpatient so someone is there to watch you.
I had some of the same issues. I went on line and started course given by and Englishman the Linden Method. For me this really worked. The main thing I found out was if I faced my anxiety and panic attacks I could overcome them. Along with mediation and Yoga I have been able to resume many of the activities I love to do. I also found out that I was having fear about fear. When I looked at it that way I was able to face it and found out that anxiety and panic could never hurt you... you hurt you. Sounds like pop psych but it worked. I still have a ways to go but I am so much better than I was. Good Luck.
