Yes. Actually you're lucky they gave you anything at all these days. Normally the pain will fade fairly quickly after the cyst erupts. The pain usually stems from a cyst that hasn't broken and keeps swelling until it does. I admit that when the cyst does finally burst it feels like someone has taken a hot knife and plunged it into your uterus, but it really will feel much better fairly quickly. You'll probably just feel some residual soreness by the next day. Hope you feel better soon!
I know this is an old post but I had to respond. Actually the pain from a ruptured ovarian cyst can take weeeks or longer to heal from. If there is pelvic fluid or blood in the cyst it will cause inflammation. You may also be dizzy, pass out, have a fever, feel nauseous, and vomit. You can feel pain and pressure in the abdomen, low back, legs and even the upper back. Yes, it is difficult to get anyone to take you seriously in the ER. Follow up with your gyno is crucial. Trust me. I’ve been through this and am dealing with ovarian cyst pain right now. The previous answer was completely false.
