It's a gel-like substance thats injected in the joint of your knee where you would normally have cartilage to cushion the joint. It dissipates over time, but is not dangerous to your system. It works very well for some people, but unfortunately not for everyone. You receive 3 shots because each one is given time to spread out in the joint,a layer at a time. While it won't make you pain-free, it's designed to reduce your pain and discomfort. I'm sorry it didn't seem to work for you.

I too had shots of orthovisc in both knees. There was some relief but not as much as I hoped. Actually the new Tylenol timed release capsules work almost as well. can't take Aleive so tried the Tylenol.
