I have had a total knee replacement in my right knee, 3 yrs ago & it's been totally successful... no regrets. My left knee is now giving me fits & is painful to walk (I love walking 2-3 miles a day). I had a cortisone injection a week ago and it's not helping at all I don't think. Most of my pain is on the lower right side & below my knee cap (different from my right knee, which was pain just about all over). My doctor will no doubt recommend Orthovisc injections next. Before I had my right knee replaced I went thru the Synvisc injections, and they didn't help... consequently, I had the surgery. Anyone find that Orthovisc works better than Synvisc?
They are really pretty much the same thing. The Orthovis is a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid from non avian sources where Synvisc is just hyaluronic acid.
There are some advantages to Orthovisc over Synvisc but I dont think it will be a huge difference however, if your Right knee was damaged worse when you tried the injections, it may be why you didnt get much relief. Perhaps the left knee isnt so far along and the injections may offer you several years comfort before needing surgery on the left too.
