... What are your results and prognosis? Had my surgery 2/21/17 and pain is greater than I expected. Cast is over the elbow and very tight. Swelling and pain present in fingers, outside of wrist up through forearm. Throbbing and jolts of pain are helped slightly with Percoset. Any suggestions and feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.
So the surgery was less than a week. Was the cast put on in the operating room?
Is it a circular cast meaning it's a hard cast that is wrapped around your arm with no way to open it.
Did I get it right ?
Has the doctor seen you within the last 24 hours?
The reason I'm asking is this could be very serious.
A cast that is so tight Is an orthopedic emergency !
Did you get written instructions on discharge?
I'd go to the ER right now!
If you don't have enough space to put one finger in and it's swelling could cause permanent damage !
You may have had swelling more than expected and the cast needs to be loosened.
Either call your surgeon right now and if no answer within 15 min just go to the ER where you had the surgery. They will have access to your records and your doc has privileges so he can admit you if necessary.
I don't want to go into what could happen to an arm that is not getting sufficient circulation. You can imagine.
Time is imperative !
Good luck to you and please give us feedback if you can remember.
