I am on methotrexate (.8mg week by injection) for rheumatoid arthritis. I have been prescribed clavulin for an abcess in my mouth after having a molar pulled can I stay on my methotrexate while taking clavulin??
You should check with your doctor about it. It can increase the level of methotrexate in your body. I would wonder if you should because of the fact that methotrexate can lower your immune system. What is the exact name of the drug. We don't use it alone here, its used in combo with other other antibiotics.
Ask your doctor ASAP about this. I have to usually stop everything like methotrexate and any biologic medicine, when I have an infection like an abscess, and if I have to take an antibiotic. I had to stop it them when I had a molar pulled, a root canal and an apicoectomy of a tooth root. The only thing I can still take to control the RA is prednisone, and my celebrex until the infection is gone and I am off the antibiotic.
