So I just got braces and an appliance. I've been using a lot of orajel on my mouth. Like every time it wears off.
Dont use it any more often than what the directions say. If you are getting raw from the wires, ask your orthodontist for some dental wax or get some from your local pharmacy. This is a soft pliable wax that you can put over the wires that are irritating your cheeks or gums. When I got braces many years ago, they put them on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and they didnt give me any dental wax and by Friday I had huge raw white lesions on the inside of each cheek and OMG! that hurt soooo bad and the office was closed, of course! A friend, who also had braces, gave me some wax and once I covered the wires that were digging into my cheeks, the relief was such that I truly almost passed out! So I really recommend you get wax to cover those areas that are creating the raw places. If it is the teeth aching from the movement, ibuprofen or Tylenol is going to give you better relief. Your teeth will ache each time they tighten but this shouldnt last more than a few days to a week then it will get better.
