I have been taking tylenol #1's for 20 yrs now and I want to be off them is it possible to ween oneself???
Yes it is possible to wean from tylenol with codiene. It needs to be done slowly as with any opiate. Don't know how many you are taking a day, but you have been on it a long time so this will not be easy. That being said, it is certainly possible.
I recommend you do this with a doctor's supervision and that you seek counseling for addiction to help you overcome the cravings you will experience and change the behaviors that you are so use to. Counseling might take the form of an individual counselor trained in this area or a group type setting like Narcotics Anonymous. While getting off the med is critical, changing behavior is also a critical part of the recovery process.
Good luck to you,
