I was just prescribed Opana ER, 20mg twice a day. I have been seeing and hearing conflicting reports on this. Some say that is is the same as oxycontin, maybe a little stronger and some say it is totally different. What is the answer? Does it help with pain? Do you get that "euphoric" feeling? What kind of side effects should I expect? Can someone help me out?
Opana is oxymorphone it has morphine effects meaning it supposed to make you feel like you just took morphine. No it does not give you a very good euphoric feeling the short actiong narcotic's like the oxycontin and norco or vicodin do. Opana is a round the clock med. that only dispence's that medication 1 hour at a time. I personally would stick with the oxycontin it is way better than the opana. Yes the opana does help with pain but that is all it does not make you have euphoric feeling in any way unless you take alot of it at once or break it before you take it. They do also have opana IR the instant release but most doc. do not like to prescribe it that way cause they want it to last you all day. As for side effects I can't really help you there all of our body's are different. I hope this helped you some.
I have been taking the 20 mg. for 2 years. I like it way better than morphine. When I first started taking it I did get that euphoric feeling, but after this long, it now only makes me feel "normal". Without it, I am miserable. Morphine doesnt help me with the "withdrawl feeling that I get when I am out or trying to stretch out my meds until my next appt. with the doc. That's why I prefer the Opana. Even against oxycontin. There is a drug in the Opana that is given to patients with hyper activity or ADD. Its called "Ritalyn" Not sure of the spelling, but is this also addictive? I'm worried about trying to get off all this meds.Don't know if I can.
I find it a little hard to start out on Opana ER and am now taking Oxycontin OP. I think the Oxy is a bit more stable and predictable with less breakthrough. Good luck. Opana ER can be up one minute and great and completely fail to work the whole next day. But when its kicked in it does work.
