Omnicef (cefdinir) is a prescription antibiotic licensed to treat a number of infections caused by bacteria in both children and adults.
Omnicef is most commonly used to treat the following infections: * Bronchitis; * Middle ear infection (otitis media); * Sinus infection (sinusitis); * Pneumonia; * Skin infection (such as cellulitis); * Tonsillitis; * Throat infection (such as strep throat).
Omnicef may be used to treat a number of other bacterial infections. It can also be substituted in place of penicillin to treat common infections in people who are allergic to this particular drug.
Omnicef is not effective against any infection caused by a virus, such as the flu, stomach flu, or common cold.
Common side effects of Omnicef are but not limited to: Nausea -- up to 3%; & Vomiting -- up to 1% who take this med. chest pain has been reported as a rare side effect which could cause pain under the breast bone area, it is recommended to speak to your doc/pharmacist who prescribed the med to either adjust the dose or prescribe some other med which do not have these side effects.
