I have been having complete numbness in both legs all the way down to my my foot. Need answers or help
Avn in its early stages is only picked up through an M.R.I. I have AVN of four joints, both knees and hips with osteoarthritis in numerous joints. Even though my avn happened 16 months ago with a spontaneous attack of the joints, a standard X-ray is still showing no signs of the condition as I have had no joint collapse yet. The M.R.I shows in depth layer by layer of the bone. I can see the levels of oeadema( bleeding) in the bones and the area that has been destroyed. The most obvious sign is where I am now and that is weight bearing pain when walking. I know that the right hip is going to collapse, but now a matter of when and not if. The benefits of early detection is it directs you best of how to manage the condition, medication to help restore bone health, exercises I can do, only in water and supports I can wear to reduce weight through the joint. This allows me to give the bone the best chance of rejuvenation which appears to be working with my knees, but the hips are showing great signs of stress. In conjunction with my orthopedic surgeon and doctors this is regularly monitored and reviewed. If you are concerned, see your doctor and have it checked out. I don't know from what country you are asking from, but in Australia, M.R.Is are not covered and you have to pay for them yourself. I have done this, which hurts financially and am having the left hip done again tomorrow, but I can have a clear picture of what is happening. Most people find out they have AVN when the bone has started to collapse, if they rely on X-rays only. Hope this helps. Lisa.
