... protected from pregnancy. So when I take it out for the a week to have my period and put a new one in am I not protected for the first week with it in again?
Hi Tamara, it doesn't really work like that, you have to start to get the hormones doing their job. After that first week, you wear it for two more weeks and then you have 1 week break for your normal period and put the new ring in 7 days later and continue on as normal. Believe me you are the second person this week to ask that. Maybe ambiguous instructions?
It is only applicable the very first week of use, not once you are using the device regularly. It takes time for the hormones to begin working so that is why they tell you to wait a week before relying only on the ring for protection. Once you have waited that very first week, as long as you are consistent with using it correctly, taking it out and reinserting on time, you will be fully protected even during the week it is out and then on after the very first week of use. Does that answer your question, make sense? I want to be sure you understand.
