Is it ok to take a insulin shot before you go to bed when your sugar is 310. ? Novalog flex pen.
Yes, if you have a sliding scale. But since it is so high, your levels will vary a lot with the first shot and you will have to wait twenty minutes before checking the blood sugars again. If it does not reduce to a safer level, then you use the dose your doctor suggests and will have to keep watching. If it doesn't come down in another twenty minutes you need to call your endo right away or the ER. This can be dangerous. If under control, rest is fine. Always wait at least twenty minutes after an injection before sleep. Never do more than two to bring down the sugar level. I am talking about the R insulin. If NPH you take as usual, check, then see if more R is needed.
A better idea is to not eat sweets and carbs before bed. Fruit is far better a choice. Include some protein for slower digestion and fewer sugar spikes.
