I have tried so many things to help alleviate the pain in my neck and upper back. Trigger Point and Facet Joint injections being the latest treatments. However, I still have the pain and the codeine cocktail just made me so constipated and ill. The doctor has just prescribed Nortriptyline, 10mg a day. I read the words, 'anti depressants' and am worried about taking them. Should I be? Has anyone else got an opinion on this please?
Well, if you're worried, and it's valid to be so, the Dr would be the one to set you at ease as he is the one with the most accurate explanation and justification as to why this med was chosen for you.
Another angle, it is not uncommon for meds like these to be prescribed for cases such as you state in your post, as dealing with pain (combined with all the other facts about your health history and current condition known only to you and your Dr) can indeed warrant such a prescription. But again, the prescribing Dr is truly to only one with the answer to YOUR specific need for this medication, and is also the one who can set your mind a ease about it.
