I am 19 yr old.I have baby in the month of January however I took the depo povera shot only once, it rashes me up make bleed often so I didn't return for my next shot..however is it normal for your mestration to return even when breastfeeding?? Because I have being bleeding on and off (irregular) and it feels pretty much like my mestration same cramps same lower back pain etc..but am not sure if it's my period or what..my baby is 8months and still breastfeeding.went to the doctor he gave me pills to stop the bleeding and it did and as soon as I stop taking the pills bleeding return however not for long. The doctor says is because my menstrual cycle is getting back to normal why I have the bleeding but am not sure.
It's most likely hormonal breakthrough bleeding, as your body tries to re-balance itself. Some women get this for months before getting a proper cycle back, & actually ovulating. For others, it's sooner.
If you are fully breastfeeding (& not supplementing a baby with extra milk/food) then breast feeding is usually reliable at preventing ovulation. Only if fully, though. I'm assuming at 8 months, you won't be the sole source of your baby's food, so you could be ovulating. Most women take at least a few months after Depo Provera, though. Don't risk it by not using protection, though.
