My husband had been on coumadin for 2 years for AF. He then had a heart cath and needed 2 stents. At this time he was taken off of coumadin and put on effient. It has been 1 year and the dr. said he could stop the effient in 2 months. Is this the normal procedure for effient. He is only going to be taking a regular aspirin.
I had 2 stents placed in Nov. 2011. I'm taking Effient with 81 mg aspirin. My cardiologist said I'd have to take Effient for the rest of my life. I frankly don't like the sound of that, since warnings are given that it is not recommended for people over 75. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but the doctors where I live say I must stay on Effient, else my stents may get clogged up. All I can tell you is that I don't think that your doctor's advice seems to be the normal procedure, though I'd like to know if it's safe, myself.
