Am having sciatica pain from S1 and L5 lower back and down right leg. Am diabetic and alpha 1 and osteopenia
They are different classifications of drugs.
Norflex is a skeletal muscle relaxant. It's good for muscle spasms. It's also a controlled drug. May produce a feeling of euphoria. It's an addictive drug.
Gabapentin is an anti-seizure med that is used to treat nerve pain specifically.
It is not a controlled drug. It is not addictive.
Sciatica is nerve pain and so Gabapentin would probably be the drug of choice.
If you are getting muscle cramps from the sciatica, the Norflex may be better.
Cymbalta is an anti-depressant that is used for nerve pain also.
The combination of Gabapentin and Cymbalta is a good combination.
I've read here that Cymbalta is hard to get off of. Personally, I had no trouble.
If you have weight issues, you need to be careful with the diabetes.
Gabapentin has weight gain as a side effect. Personally, I had no issues.
This combo also helps with sleep issues.
As Windchime; has already said they are 2 different meds, But with your problems, it seems like you could benefit much more off of Gabapentin or medications like it. The know a lot more these days about helping with the type pain you have and also part of the pain could be from the Diabetes and they treat these very different. You really have to get in and see your doctor and try to find something that does not just cover up the pain but can help nerve pain much more and last longer in your system. good luck.
