I have to hold my Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Klonopin 24 hours before ECT. Does this include Norco?
I would imagine that they want you to not take your Neurontin and Klonipin for 24 hours prior to ECT because they are anti-seizure medications and ECT works by causing controlled seizures, and having these in your system would probably lower the efficacy of the ECT by preventing or lowering the intensity of the seizure caused by the ECT. I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but I've learned quite a bit about ECT and how it works, so I'm just putting two and two together. I wouldn't think Norco would have any effect on the procedure, but I would call the office where you're having it done and ask them because as far as I know, they'll probably give you an anesthetic and muscle relaxer for the procedure and there might be a reaction, so you'll definitely want to know whether or not you can take it within the 24 hours prior to the procedure.
