... eventually involuted. I have some now, and I don't how big they are now or what they are made of. Just curious why I keep getting thyroid nodules?
hello Ruthy, welcome to our site. I looked possible causes up and found several mentioned possible causes. Lack of iodine in the site, overgrowth of thyroid tissue, Hashimoto's disease, which is a thyroid disease, thyroid cycst and thyroid cancer are all possible causes of thyroid nodules. An endocrinologist would be the expert you need to see for the best treatment. Best of luck,, patti
Have you had a needle biopsy? If they are calcified, insist that you have further testing. Not to scare but as stated above, cancer is a possibility. Been there done that. There should be a series of tests done by your ENT. Be sure they do them. I don't recall if you have a specialist. Keep us informed.
Before the 1st set of nodules involuted, one did get to 1cm and they did a biopsy but the dr couldn't get much cells out, I guess it was solid material. So that diagnosis was undeterminate. The dr I was seeing at the time wanted to wait and see what they did. But the ones I have now, 3 I think, were 3mm when an ultrasound was done last year. The endo I saw last year said I didn't need anymore ultrasounds (in his opinion) b/c from the 2 ultrasounds they hadn't grown much. So I am waiting on referral to another endo now. My ENT doesn't treat these. But, I do have trouble swallowing sometimes so I know they have grown, and I can feel one too on the front. THe dr I am seeing now only tests my TSH and since it is normal, that is it. That is why I asked to be sent to an endo b/c I am tired of feeling like this and want a complete thyroid panel to make sure I am not hypo b/c I have most of the symptoms. I have trouble losing weight so I assume they are not cancerous since I read with cancer you lose weight. Thanks for the replies.
