I been waking up with leg cramps for so long it's not even funny. the things I have learned about leg cramps I want to share with everyone. because waking up and jumping out of bed to stop that pain has been one of my goals in life to stop.WE all know about qualaquin and tonic water, bananas for potassium and a benzo they all help. Now this is gonna sound more bazaar then most people ever heard. place a bar of ivory soap under your covers or even under your bed sheet so it ends up between your legs when you sleep. I know this sounds crazy and every doctor I have ever told about this has looked at me like i'm.but it works. beats the heck out of me why it does, but it does :) subzero58

subzero here again, belive me the soap has nothing to do with not crossing your legs,I sleep on my back like a dead man, lol.and I just said ivory because its cheep and you can cut it in halves or quarters. Another thing I wanted to mention is that RX's are not a option for me, suboxone and xanax are enough for me to deal with, without asking my doctors for yet another kind of medication. ballbanese mentioned drinking plenty of water or hydration and he's def right about that. 1 more thing, its not an old wives tale. ita proven fact. but then I guess some old wives were better then others. my grandmother tought me many old world cures that science and medicine are just rediscovering today.Another is a teaspoon red wine vinagar for acid reflux.Call them old wives tales or TCM's some work for some people and some dont,my point being,we don't need to run to a doctor everytime something bothers us...subzero58...pete
That's weird about the bananas because I made a smoothie with a banana & one & a Walgreens brand insure & I normally DON'T get night leg cramps but DID last night!? I think the soap thing works & would work even if you just bunch up your blankets between your knees,I do that just cuz I have knobby knees & it keeps my knees from touching,or maybe it's some totally different reason why something small like soap works? That's for the info though.
Hello my friend,
Apart from what you have tried, click on the link , it may give you an alternative:
I hope Sub, you find something.
Have a great day,
Yeah, I have RLS real bad sometimes and I was searching one night for some kinda home remedy, I take methadone thru a clinic so I can't take benzos, n came across the soap thing. I thought it was crap but site after site said to do it, and yes it worked! But when I tried it the next night it didn't :( could just b me tho, but I do still keep the bars of soap on my nightstand so ill have it handy! :)if u come up w more solutions please let me know so I can try them on nights when the soap doesn't work :)...
I have the same leg & foot cramps at night that wake me up and I too have to jump out of bed to try to ease them. It sometimes takes quite a while to do so. After trying to ease them by walking I end up sitting on the edge of the bed afraid to lay down again because they keep wanting to come back. I end up almost falling asleep sitting up but wake myself up by almost falling. These cramps are driving me nuts! I'm afraid to go to bed anymore. Please, can anyone tell me what causes them?
i have suffered from nocturnal leg cramps for years..yes i drink plenty of water, vitawater and i eat a banana a day plus other fruits and veggies..i work 10 hour shifts and stand most the time..sitting is an option when im not busy but i also have heal spurs and getting up from sitting is worse than standing..so i think that is why i get the leg cramps..and ive tried it all..over the counter meds, tonic water, etc... the last thing i tried was soap... im one of those really skeptical ppl... dont believe in what cant be explained..but i thought... why not..it wont hurt anything..trust me..i really did not think putting a bar of soap under the sheet would do a damn thing... I WAS WRONG...
i dont get leg cramps every night so i keep a bar in my dresser drawer beside my bed..just last night as a matter of fact i got some really bad ones..i always try to just make myself as relaxed as possible.sometimes that helps when i feel them come on..but last night as other nights..it went from one calf to the other and it came on fast..i was just about to jump out of bed like have done so many times in the past, when i remembered the soap..within seconds they subsided..and didnt come back... i dont know why soap works..its a mystery to me... but it does work...
I have had nocturnal leg cramps for yrs. A couple yrs ago a friend recommended placing a bar of soap between the sheets. I did, and it worked.
The only problem is when the soap falls out of the bed. Now I sleep with socks and place the bar of soap on the sides of my ankle. The travel size soaps given at hotels works best for placing inside of socks.
My cramps have been so bad that I have placed the soap directly on the location of the cramp and feel the cramp move to a distal location. I don’t know what is in the soap, but it works
I had read on line recently about using a bar of soap and was sceptical. I have had spells of leg and feet cramps and have stayed hydrated, ate bananas, quinine water... still got night cramps. I put a bar of Irish Spring(what my husband uses) and I didn't get leg cramps until a few nights ago. I sleep with my feet out from under the sheets(hot feet). I got cramps in both legs and feet and put my legs under the sheets and they immediately went away. When I go to bed I do feel a twinge of a cramp starting, but that's all! THIS WORKS FOR ME AND MY SISTER!
