Today was my checkup.I have chronic Insomnia.I was prescribed a new Prescription... Restoril 30 mg.Generic name... Temazepam.I was taking Ambien 10 mg.(which didn't work at all.)This is my first time asking a question.I want to take this med. as soon as possible.(if it is safe)But,I have never heard of this Drug.Has anyone else taken it,or know anything about it?Thanks,if anyone has any information!
I have been taking Temazepam for chronic insomnia for about 12 days now. It didn't seem to work the first two nights but since then I find I can get 6 or 7 hours sleep which is a huge improvement for me.
It can take up to an hour or a little more to kick in but then you better be in bed as I have even fallen asleep at the kitchen table.
I can't say how it will work for long term but any sleep is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. The only problem I had was a headache in the morning for the first week but an OTC pain killer takes care of it.
I hope that helps.
Temazepam worked great for me until I realized I was not getting any REM sleep (it took over a year). A discussion with the psychiatrist (prescribing doctor) indicated that a lack of REM sleep after you have been on it for a long time CAN be a side-effect. I was switched to Zolipdem, Ambiem. That is working for me for now.
As with all drugs, your mileage will vary and some have had no long-term side-effects at all.
