I have recently been started on Valium 2mg 1-2 times daily for anxiety/pain over my chronic condition of RSD/CRPS. Going through a bad time right now emotionally thinking this disease has taken over my life and destroyed my dreams for future. Any idea how long it should take for any amount of relief, still feel like I'm being pushed to the brink. I also take it w/ Effexor XR 225mg. Any help is appreciated!
Hi RSD friend. I hear you and feel for you I too am having a horrible time right now with the anxiety and depression having this rotten disorder. I am now on my 3rd week of cymbalta and ativa. The valium should help with the anxiety shortly after you take and hold until your next dose. The effexor xr WOW unfortunately it could take 6 weeks and that is a life time. I hae good days and bad days Monday and Tuesday were horrible i was ready to go into psych institute and yesterday amd today I feel good. It is like a roller coaster and you can't get off and nobody REALLY ubderstands how and what you are feeling because not even you know that. And then after all that there is the pain. If you think the valium is not doing it's job call your doc. If you have been on effexor xr ( WHICH I WAS BEFORE CYMBALTA ANS WELL AS LEXAPRO) Maybe it is not for you. Cymbalta does help with the pain as well as the anxiety and depression Good Luck and God Bless
I know what you mean about anxiety taking over your life and dreams for the future. I have dropped out of school, almost gotten fired from work, etc. because of it. I wish I had some better answers for you, but I guess if knew how to fix it then I wouldn't have anxiety anymore myself and wouldn't be on this website in the first place. But I also have ADD which I found out there's actually six types of ADD, some of them are related to depression and anxiety as sub types. In the book I read "Healing ADD" by Daniel Amen it talks about what meds and supplements to take for each type based on brain scans. They also have a test you can take to see what types you might have. I have no idea if you have ADD but I am pretty sure he has a book for anxiety as well, and maybe it would have suggestions for your type of anxiety. Also, in my experience, just because you have depression doesn't mean that antidepressants lower your depression.
For me Vyvanse (a stimulant for ADD) does a better job of that than "anti"depressants, so see what works for you personally.
In response to your question, general crowds of people at the mall or stores give me some anxiety, but for me going to a medium sized party is a lot worse because it's a big enough crowd that it's not personal, and small enough that you can't get lost in a huge crowd. Especially when you only know some of the people and are expected to be social and meet new ones and the ones you do know aren't close friends. I just feel awkward, like you're being ignored and everyone is watching you at the same time and I don't know how to approach people or what to say.
When in a mall type crowd, there's not as many social obligations like meeting people or forced conversations where people keep asking how you're doing, and how's school/work, (the two worst topics for me) and you can't honestly tell them how you feel unless you really do feel good, so you are pretending to be happy, wondering if everyone else there is doing the same or if you're the only antisocial one there. Neither outcome brings happy thoughts, which leads to more anxiety... If you feel this way, where you get locked into negative thought patterns, you might have Type 3 Overfocused ADD which I do, or some type of anxiety.
I also checked Daniel Amen's website and it looks like he has a whole different section for anxiety alone. Here's the link:
It looks like he has a book called "Healing Anxiety and Depression" as well.
I also have insomnia, and can't get out of bed sometimes too. If I take Vyvanse regularly I can get out of bed, but I have to take Seroquel or I won't fall asleep until 5 am, if at all. If I don't remember to take Vyvanse in the morning, my day is totally off.
