I have compression fractured at t3 and and bulging disc c3-4 c4-5 c5-6 c6-7and disc bulging at t2-3 and my question is i was prescribed hydrocodone 10-325 2 times a day every 12 hours and flexeril 3 times a day. I take 1 hydro at 5am before i leave house for work and about 4.5 hours later im in pain againbut not aloud to take another 1 till 5pm so i have to leave work because im in to much pain because i cant take another hydro for 12 hours. So my question is will i be looked at as a pill seaker if i call my pm doctor and tell them 1 every 12 hours isnt working for me and ive been taking as prescribed but its hard because any kind of movement triggers my pain, i also have ather problems with my lower back but couldnt afford to have a mri taken because i have no insurance and im self pay
It's doubtful anything will be changed with a phone call. You'll most likely need to discuss this with the doctor at your next scheduled appt or make an earlier appt if you can. Most pm Dr's will start you out at the lowest dose they feel may help control your pain, then change doses or medication as you move forward. If you're new to pain management, here's a couple tips that will hopefully help you maintain a good relationship with your Dr. Don't expect to be pain free. That rarely happens. Your goal is to alleviate your pain enough that you can live and work as comfortably as possible. Never go in asking for a pain med by name. That creates a huge red flag. Just let your Dr know that the current meds aren't working for you and let him decide what to do. Be willing to try anything he suggests. If you're uncooperative, or constantly asking for increased doses, that's another red flag that may cause him to refuse to give you any narcotic at all. And follow his rules to the letter. Failure to do so could get you kicked out of his practice. If you get kicked out of one pm Dr's practice, you can pretty much forget ever getting in with another one. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the response, i had thc in my system and he told me he was unable to prescribe any narcotics intill the thc was out of my sysyem then he prescribed me tramadol 3 times a day the first 2 weeks then when i went in for my 2 week visit i and told him tramadol wasnt working at all because it wasnt and he prescribed me hydro 10-325 2 times a day every 12 hours but my job is phisical labor and even the hydros dont keep the pain away and i dont see him again for 3 more weeks thats why i wanted to ask someone here because i was debating on calling them to tell them these hydros work but only for around 5 hours tops, thank you for responding.
