Hi there. ... so happy to have found a group taking contrave since it's so new I don't know anyone else taking it! I just started the full dose of 2 twice a day and have lost 7 lbs so far. Stomach upset is only complaint!
I'll be glad to hear how you do. The combo itself is new but the meds in it aren't. I bet there are at least a few here who are taking the meds in it without even knowing it. I just started the bupropion. The other medication in it is naltrexone, something we find in some pain pills.
I've been on Contrave for 5 days and so far it has really worked to control my appetite. I was pessimistic and cautious at first b/c it's a new combo drug. And while each drug has individually been prescribed for years, as a combo drug, data is relatively new. My doc and I will watch closely to see how I respond. Also, I am re-starting my martial arts training program and have put myself on a low cal diet. I don't want to be reliant on drugs for rest of my life.
That being said, I can unequivocally say, this drug is working. On NYE we went to my fav restaurant and I had to practically make myself eat AND drink wine. I didn't finish anything. It was weird for me b/c special occasions, like NYE, can warrant a pass on life restrictions :-).
The down side... I experienced insomnia the first 2 days which went away. The only SE I'm having issues with started today - dizziness, nausea, and a general feeling of malaise... all day. To the point of only wanting to lie down, which is not like me. Also just tired for no apparent reason other than drug. I felt bad for my 5yr old who really wanted to play today. I'll stay on for a couple more days to see if it passes. But if not, I'll have to stop taking it. And that sucks b/c it's really working to curb my cravings and appetite.
