I'm very tired of new NP trying to save people who have been on a drug for a long time. Like zolpedium. They said of trazodone is so new and good. It kept me up 72 hours. I was so angry. I then talked to psychiatrist and he doesn't understand why they changed me. New doctors I believe have no clue. Especially a NP in general health.
Jerirae, I’m sorry you had this experience w your NP, I have been 1 for 18 years and I too don’t like when they “mess” w meds for no reason. Trazodone is NOT a new drug, and one I personally don’t like prescribing unless really necessary. The reason is bc it is in a catagory of meds tht cause that “hang over effect” in the am for ppl. Who wants that? Zolpidem doesn’t do tht. Every sleep Med comes w a warning of “don’t take everynight” but if it’s needed everynight-and you’re taking it and going to sleep , there’s no harm (other then eventually developing a tolerance
For the dose and needing it increased) Trazodone has been around since late
90s, it’s not new at all. It’s actually an antidepressant. Sometimes it’s used for mild depression. While it does work very well for sleep(for Some people) as it somewhat of a sedating medicine. Some very well known side effects are insomnia and agitation. Was there anything about the zolpidem that wasn’t working anymore? If you haven’t called the NP already, I’d do so and Asked to be put back on the zolpidem. If you’re having any issues with that – I’m happy to answer any more questions. Good luck with it.Our sleep health is so important-stacey
