I've had burning mouth syndrome for 3 years and I becoming very worn down from the pain and wondered if anything new has surfaced to help?
Hi margie, is there an underlying cause for your condition??? Have you tried biotene toothpaste and the same oral rinse? I use these products because the lining of my mouth peels and burms if I use regular toothpaste. I have Behcets and that has given me dry mouth as well as hypothyroidism. Actually another patient in the hospital told me about Biotene and it is the first oral care product that doesn't burn my mouth.
Hi Margie. I also have had BMS for nearly three years and it sure does wear you down. The only way I have found to control it and to keep it at bay most times is by taking Amitriptyline - I take five x 10mg tablets a day. I have juggled them around and now take three when I wake up which is fairly late and then another two late afternoon/early evening. They have definately helped calmed the problem down - that is all I can really recommend. Also Boots own make dry mouth spray. No one as yet has given me any other advice that really works. At the same time I have lost most of my taste buds. There is no-one out there as yet that can explain this syndrome of why it has happened and if and when it will disappear. If I miss my amitriptyline the BMS will remind me as it starts to kick in with a sore tongue, lips or gums. I honestly could not have continued with the way it was in the very beginning - it was so very powerful, sore and painful. Good Luck and if you hear of any new news with regard to BMS I would be so happy to hear from you. Regards June
