... severely. My girlfriend says I'm bi-polar, how can I tell. I never go up, just down. How can I differentate between depression and bipolar before I go to the Dr.?
Hello my firend
I am 41 bipolar among many other coditions, my adivise from my experience is, why wait we all have different symptoms I am more manic than depressive.
Go to you doctor and get blood tests to check how your Lithiums levels are ... then you will know.
Go to see a psyaquiatrist!
good luck, and i hope you are not BP
You can definitely have bipolar even if you just have the lows . I hardly ever experience mania just depression I would definitely tell ALL your symtoms to your doctor & go from there . You will probably be tryed on a mixture of medicines before you find what works I for one am still on the search . Good luck
I am 50 yrs old and Bipolar. I have only had 3 manias in my life, although I fight to control depression everyday. If you are Bipolar, I think everyone on this site will tell you... Get to a Dr. Talk about your symptoms and also tell them that your girlfriend THINKS you are bipolar and WHY. Do NOT wait to cycle up into a full Mania to find out. Mania can be mild for many who are 'depressive' Bipolar. Even so, a full fledge Mania can come out of nowhere. As a 'depressive', it may just begin with feelings of 'unusual' optimism and it may not go any further than that. But, IF it ever does come on full-tilt... you do NOT want to be standing in the wake of destruction you leave behind. I know, I speak from experience. Your girlfriend may see what you cannot, my friend. Please talk to your Dr. soon!
I read a few of the responses and they're accurate . My suggestion is to also keep a journal of your episodes, how your feeling and of anything you think your doctor should know. My experience has been that I suffer from memory loss during some of my not so finer moments, using a journal has helped in many ways. It's helped me in many ways, won't hurt to try . Wish you luck.
You may be suffering from Bipolar depression which is a much different creature than either Bipolar I or Bipolar II and requires special medications. Also, severe depression or treatment-resistant depression may be Bipolar II in disguise.
I was treated for Major Depressive disorder (unsuccessfully) for many decades until I finally had a hypomanic episode and was referred to a psychiatrist
You don't have to live like this! Get to a doctor or psychiatrist for proper treatment.
