... back. I've been taking it for over a year, and it started out rocky with side effects but those got better and became tolerable, however recently I've been having bad acid reflux pain after I take it. Has anyone else had that problem? And I know you aren't supposed to take antacids containing magnesium or aluminum within 2 hours before or after taking neurontin, but I'm not sure, does that include Zantac? I haven't been able to find much info on that drug interaction
The medications like zantac and Pepcid do not contain magnesium or aluminum, that is things like tums, rolaids, and Maalox.
AmrDalton When your on this for long periods of time and in the higher dose with each dose it does say take with meals are you doing that already... If not i would as far as a interaction with zantac the interactions checker says there are none but i would not take it without talking with your doctor of pharmacist first..acid reflux is a side effect of this medication to start with so that could help..Or maybe just taking it with food... AS far as antacids..this is a copy and paste from gabapentin An antacid containing aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide reduced the bioavailability of gabapentin immediate release by about approximately 20%, but by only 5% when gabapentin was taken 2 hours after antacids. It is recommended that gabapentin available under the trade name Gralise (R) be taken at least 2 hours following antacid administration.
THERE are antacids without aluminum hydoxide, and Magnesium..But sounds like if you were to take the antacid a few hours before the Gabapentin it is reduced in strenght much less like from only 5% if taken 2 hours prior to Gabapentin This really seems like something to check with the doctor on and see what they want you to do..zantac comes up with no interactions but don't do that before you talk with the doctor... as far as antacids if they are taken 2 hour prior to your medication it changes to a small amount being lost Call your doctor Monday and see what they have to say..Good luck after a year or so no problems its possible you have a ulcer and they may want you on something for acid reflux... check with them first no reason to feel sick... Chuck1957 and remember it say you can take it with food and it well buffer the upset stomach so you could do that first..
There are some that do not contain it, but I would probably run this by the Dr just to be sure it's not something else going on.
Thank you all very much! I've been taking the zantac for a little while now with no ill side effects or diminished effectiveness of the gabapentin. I do take the gabapentin with food. I've always gotten acid reflex even before being prescribed gabapentin, I have a Rx for zantac from before, it's just the gabapentin exacerbated the reflux. Feeeling better now, thanks a bunch.
