... told to take it? I think that I should be able to take it once or twice a day and the doctor wrote for 300mg three times a day? He is usually open to my suggestions if they are OK.
Neurontin is titrated up by doing the following:
day one 300mg taken once a day
day two 600mg taken in a divided dosage twice a day
day three 900mg taken as 300mg three times a day
Once you are titrated to 900mg if the medicine is working then you would stay at that dosage, if not the dosage could be increased in 300mg increments maintaining the three times a day schedule.
It is important to take 3 times a day in order for the medicine to remain at theraputic levels in your blood. Taking only once or twice a day would not keep the levels up and possibly the medicine wouldn't work then.
If you were to take all 900mgs at one time, you would have a much greater chance of side effects, hence the slow titration up and the divided doses.
Hope this helps,
It is used for depression and pain. I took it for both at one point and it made me more depressed. It helped the pain a little but did not help my mental illness. I can not take it. This is one of the side effects that it can make you more depressed rather than helping it. Other people it may help but not me.
