I tilted my head to the left and my neck popped. Now, the right side hurts. I cannot tilt my head any direction or turn without it hurting extremely bad. There is no pain in my shoulder or anywhere else in my body. What could be wrong?
I know about this because it happened to me and I know how painful it is!
It's called torticollis of wry neck. If there was no injury, it may be a result of arthritis or you may have just moved wrong.
I could not move for 2 days and then went to acupuncturist. I went grocery shopping later that day!
However, it is usually treated with muscle relaxants and physical therapy. If it doesn't help, I heard Botox is being used.
You could try doing stretching on your own.
-lie flat on back
-muscle spasms? Touch the opposite side of your face and neck. It tricks your mind into thinking it's back to normal.
-try rotating your head back into position very slowly. Go inch by inch into point where it really hurts and try holding it for a minute or two. Gradually try to get to that point and go another few inches and hold it. Do this several times a day in an attempt to align your neck back to upright position. Try massaging affected tight muscles.
Go slow so you don't make it worse.
I would go to doc on Monday if still present because the longer it lasts the harder it will be to correct.
-You could try anti-inflammatories like
-Benadryl may help as an OTC relaxant.
-If you injured your neck, IGNORE the above and see a doc ASAP. It's a totally different story!
