I have severe shingles and I'm severely nauseas and have a horrendous taste in my mouth why?I almost want to die from this. I am on acyclovir, prednisone, percocet, and Neurontin and I had a shot of morphine at the ER lastnight,What is this and how can I feel better? Please help
Wow first of all that's quite the list of reasons to help you become nauseated. You can ask the dr to prescribe you a nausea meds it will help you get through it. I have had shingles but if it's like chicken pox then I wonder if that's making you feel sick? I would just call the advice nurse and drink sips of club soda and crackers.
They all can cause nausea. Have you tried taking them after you eat something, with a full glass of liquid? Morphine can also cause nausea, and it can cause a bad taste in your mouth. Try toast and schweppes gingerale, for the nausea. These meds are so necessary to lessen the shingles.
They gave me dilaudid for the pain at the ER and I spent four days in the hospital. Shingles is nasty and I can't believe how many people don't get the new vaccine. I know your pain and I know the nausea. I received medication for the nausea. Only the dial undid was able to reduce the pain. One also should get the lidocaine patches once the majority of blisters have scanned over. They help the local pain and itching. Antihistamines don't work. If too intense go back to the doctor and get stronger meds. As the commercials on TV say, this is one of the most painful diseases you can get. Don't be shy to get the strongest stuff they will give you. The initial breakout is the worse. Get to your family doctor right away if you haven't. You will get through it. Plan on doing nothing until the major pain subsides. Work is out of the question while blisters are present. If the are on the face be sure they aren't heading toward the eyes.
They can also get in the mouth. Both are very serious. Head to the ER. Otherwise, do whatever makes you comfortable. It will get better. So will you. Karen
