I have a constant runny nose, and persistent sinus infections. I've had major sinus surgery and will NOT repeat this painful procedure. What medication is the best for controlling free-flowing mucous? As far as I know, I'm not allergic to anything, but haven't been tested. Maybe I should get tested.
Using steriods for a long period can affect your bone density & other problems too. You need to be on something else. It sounds like you do have allergies. I have them terribly, & have tried everything, but the best I have ever used is non steroidal is called Astelin. It's a nasal spray, but it's just an antihistamine. You use it every 12 hours, 2 sprays in each nostril. I think you should probably be tested for allergies. I lucked out & my PCP is also an allergist. It could be even a food allergy causing you these symptoms. Astelin is very safe & drys out the nose from post nasal drip really good. It is a prescription, but your doctor shouldn't have a problem writing you for this if you explain your symptoms. I have tried everything on the market too believe me! Of course not everyone reacts the same to every med, but it has sure helped me, & my son who is allergic to everything imaginable. Long term use of steroids also affect the natural cortisol that your adrenals glands produce so please don't use them. Unless you have an illness that requires the constant use of steroids they should only be used on a short term basis... Mary
