Why is namend so costly most people cannot afford this what do they do?

Namenda is a relatively new medicine, so the company who manufacturers it probably needs to charge a high price to recover the cost of research and design, manufacture and other costs that they have incurred during its development.

There is no generic version out yet ... I'm not too sure about the patent dates, as sometimes they can be extended ... but as it stands the earliest the patent expiry date is April 2015.

Waiting for genetics is costly. My insurance company is now paying 900 bucks a month for my abilify. There are usually funds for help. Go to the drug website and it may direct you. Good luck free discount card
