My wife, who very recently died, was put on methotrexate in october 2210,by hospital consultant. She had a long term heart condition and developed r.a. at the begining of 2010.She also han known liver disease. She was on this drug for at least 6 months.my gp assures me this had no affect on her death.my question is could it have.
I was also on methotrexate which I found cause terrible side effects. I had Lyme disease at the time and was never told. My Lyme Dr told me that this drug is contraindicated when Lyme disease is diagnosed. I got very sick but finally found a good Dr. who got me half way better.
I will give you some facts about this drug: Close monitoring of CBC (complete blood count) is MANDATORY, Methotrexate can cause acute HEPATOTOXITY (this involves the liver), elevated liver enzyme.
This medication is a very strong immune-suppesant, it suppresses the immune system, there are cases of acquiring bad infections such as pneumonia-cystic carinii pneumonia. Cardiovascular side effects: Peri-carditis, Peri-cardial effusion, myocardial ischemia, hypo-tension, ventricular arrhythmia, thrombosis, pulmonary embolus. I am not a Dr. but I am a nurse and I have researched this drug because I had to take it according to my health care team.. According to my resources methotrexate should not be given to a patient that has any type of liver disease. I hope I have not upset you but I believe you have the right to know what has effected you & your Wife's lives.
I send my condolences to you & your family
