I am wondering what other parents do to get their children to eat on this med. The pediatrician said Vyvanse takes away your appetite. The worst time is a lunch time. He barely eats a bite of toast at breakfast, his lunch comes back home after school but he eats a little at supper and is starving at night. I let him eat what he wants at anytime. Good food of course. He is 12 years old and weights 65 pounds. The doctor is not concerned as long as he gains even half a pound when we see him yearly. Please help I will consider any of your advice that will help my son. Thanks in advance friends.
Hello, my son is 7, ADHD taking Ritalin. He does not eat when on Ritalin. After the meds run out (4hours later) we squeeze in something to eat. Then give the next dose, and so on throughout the day. He is still underweight, only 39 lbs for his age. I am a member of CHADD, you could try them, or find a support group online just for ADHD, i helped me so much. They say it's ok about how much they won't eat, they won't starve themselves, even though it looks like it. As long as they are growing, albeit slowly, it's ok, that's what we were told. Any questions you can ask me privately. We've been ADHD for 2 years.
I might be able to help you by asking how long has he been on the medicine? Cause I myself have ADHD and I was diagnosed when I was 12 also, it takes some getting used to, but I would hardly eat for the first 6-8 months when I was young, but now I eat a little breakfast and lunch but I eat a big dinner. I also found out that when I kept active I would feel more hungry. My mother go tme into doing some sports and I also did some form of martial arts, it definately helps with the appetite problem. After a few years of your son being on meds his appetite will come back probably not like it was but al least he will be eating regularly. By the way Im also on vyvanse 30mg once a day and I am 28 years old now so if you have any questions about how the drug is affecting your son I'll do what I can to help.
