Has anyone had this and did it work. This is the bone you sit on and all I have is a dull ache which is becoming pretty constant. Should I go for the radiation? I have breast cancer metastised to my bones, (hip and spine).
doctors suppose to know best. they say that the benefits outway the risks. if you'd like, you could get a second opinion. i hate to here that you have cancer. how did you find out about your breast cancer. i found a lump recently and im not sure what im feeling. i know we have lumpy tissue in there. but it just doesnt feel right. my uncle has cancer and he went thru radiation. it was realy rough on him. he had to stay in a motel for a few days after the radiation treatment so he wouldnt be around anyone. make the best decision for you. whatever feels right, do it!
If you have cancer in your hip, radiation would probably help. I had 23 radiation treatments on my right humerus and left femur. The benefits far outweighed the side effects - the worst being fatigue/weakness. Radiation will target the bone lesion and works to destroy the cancer cells of those lesions. Chemo works more as a systemic cancer treatment and does not specifically target one lesion/tumor, but the whole body and any cancer cells.
When I started radiation, I could not move my arm or walk because of the excruciating pain. I wore a sling to stabilize my arm and was in a wheelchair. Within 2-3 weeks (daily treatments, M-F) I was able to remove the sling and was using a cane to walk. The chemo took 1-1/2 years to destroy remaining systemic cancer cells and put me into remission.
Be sure to voice your concerns with your oncologist and radiation oncologist. They can give you more specific info regarding your type of cancer and successful radiation of your bone lesions.
