My mother is 82 and is very active in the community. a couple years ago she started having lower back pain. The doctors told her she has arthritis and gave her codeine, even though she told them she was allergic. She has tried many doctors and they keep giving her codeine based medicine. She takes tramadol, but she truly needs something else. What pain med could she take that is not codeine based, but will work with chronic pain? Thanks again folks... Sweetpea
My mother is alleric to any type of codeine, what can she take for her back pain? No OTC, thanks!?

I am not asking anyone to prescribe, I am just not clear on which medicine is codeine based and which are not. My mother is afraid to tell her doctors how frustrasting it is not to be listened to. Maybe most pain meds are codeine based and she is out of luck...can anyone help us?
