It has been like that for a while.
It sounds like some kind of nerve issue. Is it the thigh only and not the lower portion of the leg? It could be a number of nerve issues. It could be due to an impinged nerve in the back or it could be some kind of neuropathy. Has he discussed the problem with his healthcare provider? He might want to see a neurologist at some point. A test called an EMG can determine if it is due to nerve damage.
Has he injured it recently? To me it sounds like it could be nerve damage or poor circulation. You may need to get him to the Dr. to find out what's causing it.He could have pulled a muscle in his back is another possibility, is the numbness only in his thigh, or at times does it run up his lower back? You need to rule out the possibility of a blood clot as well. They can cause numbness.
