I was reading about Risperidone and it says it is used for schizoprenia. He was not diagnosed with this that nor does he display any of those symptoms. The Risperidone seems to be a very stong medication and has me worried wth all the possible side effects.
Yes, it it used for the mental condition you mention ..but it is also used to treat Bipolar disorder.-
I am bipolar and have taken it in the past.- I am 41 years old.-
Risperdal (risperidone) is a prescription medication that is used to treat the following conditions:
Irritability associated with autism.
Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat a number of conditions within the brain.
Uses for Zoloft
Depression (also known as major depression or clinical depression)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
Social anxiety disorder (social phobia).
Many of this conditions are associated to Bipolar disorder.-
Hope this helps---
I was diagnosed with Bilpolar II disorder in 2004. I normally took Wellbutrin XL and Lamictal. Wellbutrin for depression and Lamictal ( an anti-seizure med) was used to stabilize my moods. Since 2004 I have had many med adjustments..adding pills to the mix, replacing some... all for different symptoms of being bipolar. Depression, anxiety, mania, mood-stabilizers. Over 16 of them. It happens. Metabolically and neurologically people change and the same pills and doses won't always work.
I was temporarily put on Risperdal when I was having a really bad manic episode. (I also am NOT schizophrenic, it's just something they can try on bipolar patients who are manic, but the pill classification is under schizophrenic or psychotropic drugs) I HATED that med! I slept like crazy. I was prescribed only 2mg and I was knocked out like I just had a night of heavy drinking. I couldn't even function the following day and I had a hangover from it! So my Dr. says "Cut the pill in half. and if that doesn't help, cut it into a 1/4 and if that doesn't help, cut it into an 1/8..just make sure some of it is in your system."
I literally had to take only an 1/8 of a pill just so I didn't sleep or have a headache or hangover feeling. And I was gaining and average of 2 lbs. per week!
Another time when I needed a med adjustment, I was tried out on Zoloft, along with my WellbutrinXL/Lamictal cocktail. There was nothing wrong with it, except the fact that I couldn't focus on anything! I was so zoned out. But I have a friend that took Zoloft for anxiety all through high school and was perfectly fine on it.
