I have a girlfriend who only weights 70-80 lbs she is 23 years old. she is curently on 20mg of celexa a day and all she does is sleep even up to 12hours+ strait every day. she has tried taking only 10mg a day it solved the several hours of sleeping problem, but she has become more angry at one of her parents (they both don't agree on alot of things). can anyone plz give me any ideas of what I should have her do because the doctors around here are not well educated in meds, im afraid she is going thru drug toxicity from the med just like i did ,I only weight 102lbs. I really need some info on what to do to help her she is very stubborn but I love her,
Sounds like she needs to be seen by the doc again and they need to maybe chnge her meds. I could not take celexa, it made me feel drunk for several hours after I woke up. I would take it at nite. Sorry I can't help, but you will start getting some responses soon. Good luck, Von-1
Hello jonathanS81. I agree with Von. She might need to be seen, reavaluated. Mind you irratability and fatique are common side-efffects of this drug. I don't understand what you meant by that the "doctors around here are not well educated in meds" Doctors are just that, they know medicine,.You didn't say how long a period of time shes been on celexa. I also was on it and I stopped taking it because it left my feeling tired. Hope you do get more feedback from some of the other members.
Hi, as pledge has said, it would be helpful to know how long your girlfriend has been taking the celexa, as this is a medicaion that can commonly make you feel worse before you feel better. You should allow about 4 weeks for the medication to 'settle' before you know how the treatment will effect someone long term. I started it on 20mg and after 3 weeks i was a mess, crying all the time and feeling hopeless, my doctor increased my medication to 40mg and very soon i felt so much better. I know the natural reaction is to think of lowering the dose of a medication if you are feeling bad with it, but sometimes it works out better going the other way. Do not consider changing the dosage without consulting a professional though, even if you don't have much faith in your girlfriends doctor. Has she seen i psychiatrist? As it was my psych that sorted out he best medication combination for me. Bear in mind also that sleeping more can be a symptom of depression. I hope she feels better really soon
i find that taking celexa first thing in the morning helps with the drowsiness.. i used to take it at night, and could not get up in the morning... but taking it first thing, it seems the side effects are less... that being said, i would talk to the doctor and maybe try a different med altogether... there are so many out there, it is worth trying a few before she finds one that suits her... good luck..
