I have had many stomach surgery-colon removed,10 hernia's in less than 7 years. my pain management dr. wants to put me on these due to I have a ileostomy and alot of different pain meds go right into my ostomy bag without dissolving and I am allergic to alot of different meds and when I get a blockage I am vomiting up my meds so they don't get in my system. So, most of the time I get admitted into the hospital with a NG tube and nothing by mouth and a IV fluids/pain meds. How can I get this medicine?
I am wondering why your doctor has not tried using a patch, like fentynal or something simulur that can be used topically via the skin? Have you tried this method, or do you have a latex allergy also? Just wondering. I hope you find a resolution to this problem, no on should have to ever suffer in pain, my heart goes out to you,(((hugs)))
Have you talked to your doctor about this?? There are laws concerning insurance companies denying you meds that you absolutely have to have due to medical problems. I know that my husband and I have Bc/BS, and they are the worst when it comes to helping people. Remember, insurance companies are in the business to MAKE MONEY, not help people. You have to fight this through your doctor, and write to your state's insurance commissioner and explain the problem. Also write to the insurance company and tell them that you are loging a formal complaint against them with the insurance commissioner. Trust me, that goes far. Look on the internet and find out who regulates insurance companies. Also, don't take NO for an answer. Just keep going up and up. When the first person says no, ask to talk to their supervisor. If they say no, talk to their supervison, and just keep on going. You will be surprised how they change their tune.
Remember, you PAY for this service, not the other way around.
One more thing. Look up the medications that you need on the internet. Oftentimes, they have discount programs available, where you only pain 10-15 dollars at the pharmacy. Lastly, compare prices at pharmacies. I have found that Target is the cheapest.
Hello birddog, I am very sorry to hear about your insurance company- they truly are very shrewed. You must never give up. You must always advocate for yourself, because no one will ever do so. Ask your Dr. who the manufacturer is of said drug and then do a google search. Manufacturer will help you to where you may not have to pay a dime for this drug. I hope this helps you.
You didn't list a particular med, so I assume you already know what works & your insurance won't pay for it. My husbaand has similar problems as you, & has had 28 surgeries on his abdomen. He now has a basketball size hernia which is inoperable. He also gets obstructions often, & has NG tubes. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. Have your doctor write a letter to your insurance stating the reason you have to have certain type of meds. this has worked for us, & if that doesn't work, do as Ms fino suggests in her comment to you. Contact your state insurance board. You have to push them sometimes to give you what you need because they just don't want to pay out more money is the straight & simple truth!I am really sorry to hear you are having these troubles. I wish you the best of luck... Mary
