I've had surgery on both shoulders within the past year- torn labrum in each. Before surgery, each shoulder was dislocating on a regular basis- once a week. I dislocated my right shoulder again, for the first time since surgery. The pain is pretty bad. My dr., who performed both surgeries, is weary to prescribe me Vicodin- which is the only drug which really seems to work. I feel like I should be able to tell them this and request a prescription without getting the third degree about asking for hydrocodone. How should I handle?
my suggestion tio you is find a new doctor. either he feels you are trying to get the vicodin to abuse it because he thinks you are an addict or he just has personal issues prescribing narcotics but that the best part about this country is that we have a choice so go find another doctor and if you honestly do have lagitamate shoulder issues and im sure you do then another doctor wont have a problem giving you vicodin. my primary doc for my shoulder gives me norco for my pain and he sent me to a specialist for surgery and this cat wanted to not only not refill the norco script but wanted to give me a cream to rub in my shoulder instead. i was like are you friggin serious??? your gonna downgrade me to a cream and i walked out!
Well for one you do not want to go in search of another Dr just bc of pain meds, they call this doctor shopping and it is very much watched for. I would talk to your doctor again. I know this can be hard, I had the same surgery on my left shoulder and had alot of issues. Has he done anymore x-rays or MRIs to check to see if the issue is back? Instead of just asking about pain meds ask for testing bc it is causing issues for you again and then explain to him that the pain is very real and that you know the risks involved with taking them long term, but until you can find a way to resolve the issues and pain you have no choice but to ask. I really hope this helps.
