Can i appose this decision? I have been taking it for 2 years (Tramadol). I saw a new doctor today, for non related reasons, but he brought up my tramadol usage and wants me off it. I know the dangers of tramadol as have had problems with it in the past but my doctor is unaware of this.

Hi guys i voted your responses 'up' before i wrote my comments... Thanks for your responses! I went through hell the year before last coming off tramadol so i am completely aware of the severity of addiction to it, and i know it sounds crazy that i would take it again, but i just can't live without it! I am being sensible with it now and am petrified that my prescriptions for it will be stopped!
Did the doctor suggest what he would have you do for the pain? There are alternatives that are non narcotic. Don't know your particular condition but might be worth discussing with the new doctor.
What is wrong with your back? If it is nerve related you might benefit from Lyrica or Neurontin. These are both non narcotic.
Of course, you know you will have to wean off the tramadol so to avoid withdrawls. Your new doctor can advise you as to how to do this when the time comes.
Hi Delila, How are you doin, good to hear from you. did the doctor suggest anything else for your pain. Is this a pain management doctor? You got to take something else for it. I am on Percocet and Soma. I get injections sometimes too for my back as well. If you want you can PM me ok, we'll talk. I hope you feel better. I had side effects with tramadol too. But I can't remember sorry. Im sorry I wasn't to helpful. But you can talk to me privately. I am also on Cymbalta for depression and nerve pain its been helping both. Have you tried that or Lyrica?
I agree with both prior posts if he is not willing to replace it with another pain med or optional withdrawl treatment you need to see another doctor just stopping pain meds is not an option if your considering it without help please prepare for a difficult withdrawl but not impossible just hurts like hell.
