WHAT is going on here ??? I am now scared to try the new medication and while I was searching for answers several sites came up and they made me sick... I want relief from pain..do not want to get high... my simple queston is My Doc put me on 20mg Opana instead of 30mg Oxycontin and I would like to know how it is working for others that have made the switch..I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW how to snort, inject, sell or abuse this is any way..would someone be so kind as to post their experience instead of telling me different ways to get high of off this medication... I just want to be able to move and walk and sleep without pain being my constant companion... thank you
I agree about some of the other sites. I believe drugs.com members are not here to tell you how to use it, abuse it, sell it, etc. The members here are very caring and will help you as much as possible. I had been prescribed oxycontin some time ago. Since my accident and surgery, I was prescribed a morphine based med similar to Opana ER. I was also prescribed a medication for breakthrough pain. This combination is working well for me although not 100% relief. The Opana is a good medication. If you find it doesn't work as well as the oxycontin did, please ask your doctor for an increase in mg's or another med to add for bt pain. Many people are happy with the switch to Opana. However, each person may have different opinions, reactions, relief levels, from all different types of meds. I do hope this medication works well for you. I'm sure someone who has made the exact switch as you have will give their opinions too. Good luck to you and hope you have a pain free day very soon!
The manufacturer of the old style Oxycontin, Purdue Pharm, acquired Ethex Manufacturers to distribute the OC's for them. It's being marketed in generic form as Oxycodone ER in 80 mg & 40 mg only, but unfortunately only Walgreens is carrying this brand name. Let me warn you though, pretty much every pharmacy is very hesitant to give any information what so ever concerning Schedule II medications over the phone, unless they know you due to the rash of daytime robberies not too long ago looking for, you got it, Oxycontin!! There's one more company that distributes the 20 mg only, called Apotex. As far as I know once again, Walgreens only carries this. You must completely trust & believe me when I tell you, IT REALLY IS EXACTLY THE SAME MEDICATION. It's says OC on one side & 80 on the other, is the same exact color & same size.
It will begin to melt in your mouth, if for some reason you can't swallow it immediately, so that alone tells me they ARE NOT the OP's. The OP's gave me horrible stomach pains with worsened constipation. Worse of all (I'll swear on a mountain of Bibles, too!!) those darn things passed completely through my intestinal tract & on out completely whole, without dissolving at all. Now you tell me, how can a medication perform its duty if it can't break apart to let the chemicals do what they're suppose to do? Recently I read they've discovered yet another dangerous side effect from them. If you have a damaged liver, etc.,be careful because whatever they have used for the reformulation to make it abuse resistant, has the possibility of causing further or additional problems or damage.
I believe this is the longest response I've submitted since joining this valuable forum recently. This website has been so very helpful, supportive and been full of accurate knowledge on any question I've needed answers for. Thank you Drugs.com for being there for me.
I truly hope this give you the answers you seek & you're a little less stressed & the future looks a little bit more positive. Don't hesitate in letting me know if you need help with anything else...
I just started using Opana. I was on Oxycontin a long time and it worked really well for me. Now my insurance will not pay for my Oxycontin so my Dr and I r working on Opana. I have several handicaps and have been on a larger doses of Oxycontin with Percocet for break through pain. I am not getting much relief on the 40 mg of Opana. I am happy it is working for you!! This is my first time writing and I came across your note. I am sorry if people scared you about Oxycontin. That is just rude!! Well I just wanted to say hello and let u know not all of us that take Oxycontin abuse it. Take care and God bless!!!
